EU: Mutual recognition would be the logical conclusion of the normalization of

The spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, said on Monday that mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia would be the logical course of the process of normalizing relations between them, although the goal of the dialogue facilitated by Brussels does not include recognition.

" This issue is not addressed in the framework of the dialogue facilitated by the European Union. The task of this dialogue is to normalize relations, but the determination of normalization at the very end of the process, when we get there, or better said when the parties get there with our support, will be determined by the parties themselves, so what they mean by normalization and what would be the end of this process" , said Mr. Stano.

He made these comments a day before the next meeting between the chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels.

Last week, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic failed to make progress in normalization talks, and a tripartite meeting planned with the mediation of European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell did not take place, due to Kosovo's refusal to to participate.

" The agenda of tomorrow's meeting is of course determined by the greatest urgency, which is the beginning of the implementation of the agreement on the road to the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia" , said Mr. Stano.

It has been more than a year since Kosovo and Serbia reached the agreement on the normalization of relations in Brussels and Ohrid, but its implementation has not yet started.

Western diplomacy has been trying to encourage the parties to implement the agreement, which does not provide for mutual recognition, but requires good neighborly relations, recognition of documents and symbols, and respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is considered de facto but not de jure recognition of Kosovo by Serbia.

The agreement requires that the parties do not hinder each other in the integration processes as well as fulfill all the agreements previously reached between them.

The European Union has emphasized several times that the agreement, although it has not been signed, is legally binding for both parties and progress towards their European integration depends on its implementation./ VOA
