The High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, has confirmed that he has invited the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian President, Aleksandër Vucic, to an urgent meeting.

The focus of this urgent meeting is to find a solution to the situation in the north.

Borrell, through a post on Twitter, declared that the situation needs immediate de-clarification and new elections with the participation of Kosovo Serbs.

"I have invited the leaders of Serbia, Aleksandër Vučić and Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to Brussels for urgent meetings to find a way out of the current crisis. We need immediate de-escalation and new elections in the north with the participation of Kosovo Serbs. This is paramount for the region and the EU," Borrell wrote.

On Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Albin Kurti confirmed that he will travel to Brussels for the next high-level meeting, within the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.

He said that there he will insist on the urgent and unconditional release of the three policemen kidnapped by Serbia.

"Tomorrow I will travel from Rome to Brussels, confirming my participation in the high-level dialogue convened by High Representative Borrell. I will insist on the immediate and unconditional release of the three policemen who are being held hostage by Serbia, the escalation of the situation and the normalization of relations," Kurti wrote on Twitter.

The spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, stated on Wednesday that he cannot confirm the date for the meeting between the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian president, Aleksandër Vučić.

However, Stano added that there is no time to lose and concrete actions are needed.

The situation in the north of Kosovo has been tense since May 26 when the elected presidents were forced to go to their workplaces under the assistance of the Kosovo Police.

Serbian protestors are standing in front of the municipal buildings who are opposing the Albanian mayors.

During this time, the protesters in the north, among them some with masks, have attacked members of the Kosovo Police, KFOR, as well as journalists who are reporting from the northern part of the country.

Kosovo authorities have arrested some of the attackers, including the organizer of the attacks on KFOR, Millan Millenkovic-Llune.

While the Serbian forces have kidnapped three border policemen of Kosovo, within the territory of our country, whom they are continuing to keep in Serbia.
