The professor of Johns Hopkins University, Daniel Serwer, has spoken about the current situation in the north of Kosovo and the intentions of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to maintain control over the north of Kosovo.
The American analyst and connoisseur of the Balkans' circumstances, Serwer, in an interview for "N1" said that Albin Kurti is trying to establish the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo, which is of course his constitutional obligation.
As for Vučić, he says that with the destabilization of the situation in the north of Kosovo, his [Vučić's] and his policy's goal is to have another 'Republika Srpska' in the Balkans, so that the entire region is always on the verge of destabilization.
"But Vucic is serious about Greater Serbia, what he calls the Serbian world, and is determined to maintain control over northern Kosovo."
Asked why this new wave of tensions is happening in the north of Kosovo at this moment and if this is happening because an agreement is very close and someone does not want that agreement to be reached or signed, Serwer says that he does not believe that we are close to an agreement and does not want to take an approach that blames one party, Telegrafi reports.
"I think that what is happening is that Serbia has definitely decided to continue its control over the north of Kosovo, regardless of the cost. This is her. And Kurt opposes them. Opposing them not only skillfully, but trying to establish the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo, which is of course his constitutional obligation. But Vucic is serious about Greater Serbia, what he calls the Serbian world, and is determined to maintain control over northern Kosovo."
Serwer says that with the destabilization of the situation in the north of Kosovo, the goal of Vucic and his politics is to have another 'Republika Srpska' in the Balkans, so that the entire region is always on the verge of destabilization?
"Yes, he is trying to get another 'Republika Srpska'. They wrote it and presented it as a proposal for dialogue. I think it is very clear in writing that the Serbian proposal for the Union of municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo would have executive functions and would be governed independently from Pristina", he said.
