The situation in the north of Kosovo is tense, one policeman is killed, another

There is no end to the tensions in the north of Kosovo, while a gun attack on the police is reported to have happened in the early hours of this morning.

According to reports, it is known that one policeman was killed, while another was injured. It is known that the killed policeman is Afrim Bunjaku, from the village of Samadrexhe in Vushtrri.

The news is confirmed by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti himself, who states that during the night, in the village of Banjska in Leposaviq, the Kosovo Police was attacked, as a result of which one officer lost his life and another was injured.

Kurti also announces that the attackers are masked and armed with heavy weapons.

"Around 3 o'clock in the morning today, in the village of Banjska in Leposaviq, the Kosovo police was attacked, in which case one Kosovo policeman was killed and another was wounded. The killed is a police officer with the rank of sergeant, while the injured is a member of the border police. At these moments, the firing of firearms of different calibers on our police continues. The attackers are professionals with masks and armed with heavy weapons.

We condemn this criminal and terrorist attack. Organized crime with political, financial and logistical support from official Belgrade is attacking our country. In this battle we protect and enforce the law, protect and preserve citizens without distinction and independent Kosovo. The executing criminals and their order givers will fail, be caught, tried and punished.

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo and state institutions are ready and coordinated to respond to crime and criminals, terror and terrorists. The Kosovo Police has notified the family of the slain AB policeman. The injured policeman is out of danger. Condolences to the family and everyone for our murdered policeman. Speedy and complete recovery to the injured policeman," writes Kurti.

Meanwhile, this serious attack comes almost four months after the violence in the north of Kosovo, several troops of the NATO mission, KFOR, were injured.

More than 90 members of the NATO mission in Kosovo were injured in late May, when protests by the local Serbian population against Albanian mayors turned into violent clashes.

In Kosovo, so far, ten people have been arrested for "participation in violent protests" and attacks on KFOR members.

KFOR commander Angelo Ristuccia said on September 19 that there is no new information about the investigations, but that he knows that the Kosovo authorities are working on them.

He said he hopes that the authorities in Belgrade will also investigate those people who "returned to Serbia" after the riots.
Ristuccia said that KFOR also expects that all perpetrators of violence "will be prosecuted immediately".
