The United States of America and the EU have put a "limit on their words" to Prime Minister Albin Kurti. Gabriel Escobar has made it clear that they expect that tomorrow there will be an agreement to calm the situation in the North.
The American Escobar said today during a meeting with journalists that if Kurti does not accept the 3 conditions that were put on the table yesterday, then it is clear that he does not want cooperation with the USA and the EU and that this, according to him, cannot pass without consequences.
While speaking about the consequences, Escobar said that they are not aimed at the people of Kosovo, as according to him, America has excellent relations with the Kosovars. Moreover, he added that whatever the government of his state has with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, it will not affect the people.
" I hope people understand that whatever difficulties we have with Prime Minister Kurti do not affect this sentiment. But we have some challenges in bilateral relations while we are dealing with Prime Minister Kurti. I want to be very honest, the USA has been your biggest supporter and it hurts me to see that people think that somehow we are leading our relationship with Kosovo for the benefit of Serbia. I want to remind you that Serbia was against your independence in 2008 and we went ahead, they were against the recognition campaign and we moved on, they were against the Council of Europe and we moved on, they were against the elections and the results and we said that they were fair and free ," Escobar said.
He added that there are politicians who want to keep Kosovo's conflict alive with its allies, because this, according to him, keeps them in power and makes them rich. Escobar added that the US and the EU will not wait forever for any individual who does not cooperate and that Washington will always be with the people of Kosovo.
The American envoy for the dialogue stated that the draft statute of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority should be presented immediately by the government.
He also added that Aleksandar Vucic cannot have the right to veto when the elections are held for the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, while adding that this window closes if Kosovo cooperates by establishing the Association.
