US President Donald Trump's envoy, Richard Grenell, has sharply criticized the ongoing trial of former Kosovo president Hashim Thaçi at the Hague Special Court.
Grenell, who has long been one of Trump's closest aides, called Thaçi's case an illustrative example of Europe's failure. He added that a large number of European politicians are choosing to turn a blind eye to this.
"There are many reasons why Europe is failing. But one example is the large number of European politicians who remain silent about The Hague, which keeps a Head of State in prison for 5 years without trial. And then the trial lasts for many more years. It is a brutal, archaic system run by elites," Grenell wrote on the X platform.
He also said that “I hope Hashim Thaçi sues everyone in The Hague in an American Court when he is out.
Hashim Thaçi, along with Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, are accused of being part of a "joint criminal enterprise" that targeted those it considered "collaborators" and "traitors" to "gain power" during and after the war in Kosovo.
The defendants' lawyers have denied all charges against their clients, arguing that the KLA did not have a proper command structure.
