Official Athens has denied the statements of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, who said a few days ago that Greece is close to recognizing independence.
"The Greek position has remained unchanged," said an Athens Government official when asked by EURACTIV.
In an interview for the Polish television "TVP World" on September 8, Kurti said that Greece can quickly recognize the independence of Kosovo , taking the lead among the five EU member states that do not recognize it.
Greece has a Liaison Office accredited by UNMIK in Pristina, while Athens has an Office for Economic and Commercial Affairs of Kosovo.
In 2021, it was raised to the Office of Interest, and while it cannot keep the Kosovo flag outside, it can issue visas. Athens also recognizes passports issued by Kosovo.
