The head of the OVL-UCK criticizes the indictment and the functioning of the court, while speaking about expectations from the final phase of the trial
The Chairman of the KLA War Veterans Organization, Hysni Gucati, has commented on the trial in The Hague against former KLA leaders, which is in the closing arguments phase, stating that he expects the release of those unjustly accused by the prosecution.
According to Gucat, the closing arguments of the parties in the trial will begin on February 9. He said that he expects a decision to be made in May that, according to him, will restore justice and lead to the release of the accused.
He described the indictment as fabricated and stated that some witnesses had given false statements. At the same time, he emphasized that the defense had presented international witnesses who spoke about the role of the Kosovo Liberation Army during the war and its key figures.
Gucati added that he expects the prosecution and the victims' representatives to seek sentences, but expressed confidence that the trial panel will make a decision that he considers fair for the KLA.
He also criticized the treatment of the defendants during detention, claiming that prison procedures and rules were violated. According to him, there were prolonged wiretapping and constant surveillance during visits, which, in his assessment, indicates a violation of the prisoners' rights.
He stated that the court bears responsibility for these actions, while emphasizing that the prison staff implements the decisions made by the trial panel.
The trial of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selim enters the closing arguments phase on February 9. The hearings are expected to last until February 18, before the four defendants present their closing arguments.
