Former president Hashim Thaçi has spoken once again at the Special Court in The Hague, demanding respect for the Constitution and laws of Kosovo.
Thaçi is being accused for the second time by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in The Hague. This time for witness intimidation.
Thaçi said that he does not represent a danger in the political sense, nor "for any government project".
" Precisely at this early stage of this process, for the regular constitutional and legal progress that should take place, you know four years ago in November 2020 an indictment was filed against me just three months before I was re-elected president of the country. Now, ten days ago, the Prosecutor's Office hastily presented an additional indictment just two months before the parliamentary elections in Kosovo. I want to clarify once again, I am not part of the political race, nor do I have any political ambitions for president, prime minister, deputy, or any other public position ambition. I reiterate that I am not an obstacle nor do I present a danger to anyone in the political sense, nor to any government project ", said Thaçi.
The former president said that disrespecting the Constitution and laws of Kosovo undermines democracy in his country.
" I would like to reiterate and underline the necessity of respecting the Constitution and the laws of Kosovo in this hall. Non-respect of the laws of Kosovo and other legal norms by the parties, in this sacred hall for justice, represents a risk of undermining democracy in Kosovo, represents a risk of violating citizens' trust, therefore I invite everyone to maintain institutional self-restraint even in this room ", Thaçi said at the conference on the progress of the case on December 18.
Judge Marjorie Masselot continued with the hearing showing the procedures to be followed for the release of the materials.
