Removal of the Serbian dinar, DASH appeals to Kosovo: Consult with the affected

A spokesperson for the US State Department in a response to the media has said that Kosovo should offer more time and consult the communities affected by the decision of December 27 of the CBK, which excludes payments in dinars in Kosovo from February 1.

"We call on the Government of Kosovo to review this decision, consult with the affected communities, respond to the concerns expressed by the international community and provide sufficient time for its decisions to be implemented in order to mitigate the impact that those decisions will affect the citizens. We are concerned that the regulation approved on December 27 will negatively affect the Serbian ethnic community in Kosovo", said the spokesperson for 'Pavlovic Today'.

According to this medium, the State Department underlined that, in accordance with the law of Kosovo and the commitments made under the Ahtisaari Plan, Serbia "has the right to provide financial assistance to members of the ethnic Serb community in Kosovo".

"This is the reason why we continue to ask Kosovo to fulfill its commitment to establish the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority (ASM).

AKMS is the primary mechanism through which Serbia can transparently provide financial support to institutions and individuals according to the legal framework of Kosovo",  said the American official further.

"The State Department emphasized that individuals in Kosovo who "legitimately receive financial assistance from Serbia need access to a functional legal mechanism through which they can receive that support."

According to him, institutions that provide vital services, such as education and health, "must be able to continue their operation".
