The former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Pjetër Shala, known as commander "Wolf", was sentenced today to 18 years in prison by the Special Court in The Hague.

In the summary that was made in the court session, it was said that four indictments for war crimes were filed against him, and that the crimes mainly occurred from May 17 to June 15, 1999.

"18 identified persons were deprived of their liberty at the metal factory in Kukës. The evidence shows that the individuals were arrested, as they do not support the KLA enough, they were arrested on the street, at home, etc. Shala was directly involved in the detention of a person. At no time during the detention were they given any guarantee, they were not informed why their freedom was taken away. They were not given the opportunity to object, despite the fact that they were mistreated by members of the KLA, including Shala," said the ZPS official.
