3 people have been arrested by the Kosovo police for the accident that happened on Thursday in Gjilan, where one person lost his life as a result.
It is suspected that the arrested did not help the victim, but left the scene. For failure to provide assistance in such cases and if there are victims, the Penal Code provides a prison sentence of up to 8 years.
A vehicle hit the rocks and ended up on the other side of the road.
Regarding the case, residents have shown that young people were racing cars and that accidents in this area are not rare.
There was another person in the vehicle with the victim who was injured.
Three other people who were at the scene of the incident and were identified on Friday ended up in the handcuffs of the Police.
"Regarding the case, on 26.01.2024, the investigation unit identified and arrested three Kosovar male suspects, since they were together with the victim on the critical day. After the accident, they did not offer help to the victim, but left the scene ," the police announced.
In addition to not providing assistance, two of the arrested, BA 29-years-old, FA 23-years-old, are suspected of having been racing cars, which are prohibited by law, at the time of the accident, during the early hours of the morning.
"By order of the prosecutor, the suspects FA and BA are under detention for 48 hours, due to the suspicion that they have committed the criminal offenses of "Endangering public traffic with dangerous actions or means" and "Failure to assist a person injured in the public traffic accident", of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, while the suspect LM, due to the criminal offense of "Failure to help the person injured in the public traffic accident", of the KPRK, said Liridona Xheladini from the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Gjilan.
The prosecution is expected to request the measure of detention against the suspects.
