Preparations have begun at Skanderbeg Square in Pristina for the stage for speeches during the protest in defense of the values of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
A large number of citizens have already headed to Pristina to oppose the unfair trial of former KLA leaders in The Hague, and some of them have already begun to fill the "Mother Teresa" and "Skanderbeg" squares.
"Against injustice! In defense of the KLA and the truth," is the protest's motto.
Former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, have been in custody in The Hague since November 2020. They are accused of war crimes, while they have pleaded not guilty to all counts of the indictment.
Their trial began on April 3, 2023. US Special Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell, has expressed support for former President Hashim Thaçi, calling it shameful that he is still being held in detention.
Grenell has called The Hague an institution that does not function. Support for the protest has been expressed by various political figures in the country as well as influential religious figures in Kosovo.
The protest is organized by the KLA War Veterans Organization as a sign of dissatisfaction with the work of the Special Investigation Unit, due to a lack of transparency and after confirmation that they have also received documents from Serbian authorities as evidence.
