The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, announced a day ago that she has withdrawn her request to the Constitutional Court on the issue of the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly.
She justified the decision with the fact that Judge Radomir Laban has been appointed as rapporteur for this case, describing him as a "problematic figure for state security."
Regarding this, the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has reacted.
Asked about his stance on this decision, Kurti said that President Osmani was not aware that Laban would preside over the issue in the Constitutional Court.
"We have been informed about Judge Laban since 2018, when he applied to become a member of the Constitutional Court," Kurti said.
He recalled that MP Albulena Haxhiu, on behalf of the LVV parliamentary group at the time they were in opposition, had sent an official letter to the Office of the President and the then President of the Constitutional Court.
"MP Albulena Haxhiu, on behalf of the parliamentary group, where we were in opposition, wrote an official letter to the Office of the President, but unfortunately neither the then president in 2018, nor the then president of the Constitutional Court in 2018, saw fit to stop such a process because it is absurd that someone, who according to the information we have from the security institutions is unsuitable, a danger to our constitutional order, should now judge on a constitutional issue," Kurti said.
