Former Foreign Minister, Paskal Milo, warns of a possible escalation in Kosovo. He said that regarding the issue of the dinar, he sees a certain dilemma in Kosovo's institutions about how it will be administered, but not a fundamental conflict.
Speaking about the talks between the parties in Brussels, he said that it is an effort but it remains to be seen if it will produce results.
"It comes rather from the insistence that the EU and the US have made to sit down to see the possibility of a compromise. They are looking for an agreement on the dinar and in the perspective of not firing the Ohrid agreement. It is an effort but I don't know if this new effort will be able to produce any results. The parties have clearly distanced themselves. Vucic and his assistants have ruled out the idea of recognizing what they accepted in Ohrid. On Friday, a space of three more days was left to leave room for a minimum consensus, the content of these proposals remains a mystery.
I see more elements related to the way the issue of the dinar should be administered and not any fundamental institutional conflict. Until Friday, we will have the opportunity to see how things will flow", said Milo.
He further said that there are still unresolved issues, such as that of the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo.
"There are some issues that are still expected to be resolved. The election day for the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo is expected. It is an issue that both sides are calculating.
Prishtina knows that a return to this situation where there will be a head of the Serbian community would make administration difficult. There is a concern because the way it will be solved is also a problem that we will look at in the future.
The 11 points of the Brussels agreement have a strategic clash. Brussels claims it is a binding agreement. But as long as it is mandatory, it is so for both parties, but there is doubt even from Prishtina, there is hesitation to advance in the direction of creating the association. They are elements such as today dinar, can create such an unforeseen situation. It is not surprising that the situation in Kosovo will escalate in the coming weeks from a political point of view", said Milo in his interview on MCN television.
