The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, have started the meeting in Brussels within the framework of the dialogue for the normalization of relations. This is the first time they sit at the same table since the explosion of tensions in the north of Kosovo in May.

Kurti and Vucic previously held separate meetings with the mediators of the process, the head of foreign policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, and the EU envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak.

In a statement after the meeting, Vucic said that difficult talks had begun.

According to the Block's announcement, the topic of the tripartite meeting is the implementation of the Agreement for the normalization of relations, reached orally between Kurti and Vucic in February. But current issues will also be discussed.

On the other hand, the High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, has announced that now is the time to start seriously implementing the agreement reached in Brussels and Ohrid and said that today it can be seen if the parties are ready to take responsibility.

"I am waiting for President Vucic and Prime Minister Kurti for a high-level dialogue meeting in Brussels. It is time to start seriously implementing the agreement on the road to normalization. Today we will see if they are ready to take responsibility", he wrote.

Kurti and Vučić met for the last time in Brussels on May 2, nine days after the extraordinary elections that were held on April 23 in northern Kosovo and which were boycotted by the local Serbian population.

Since then there have been tensions and crises between the two countries.

The two countries, under the mediation of the EU, have been in talks for the normalization of relations since 2011. Although they have reached dozens of agreements in various fields, the implementation of most of them has stalled.
