The Mayor of the Municipality of Ranilug in Gjilan, Kosovo, Tanja Atic, has been questioned by the Kosovo Police, following suspicions that she may have exerted influence on voters from the Serbian community during the electoral process.
Police spokesman for the Gjilan region, Ismet Hashani, told RTK that Atic is suspected of having exerted pressure on citizens who did not have a clear political orientation or supported other entities.
According to him, voters were allegedly warned about losing the financial benefits they receive from Serbian institutions if they did not vote according to certain instructions.
Atic was interviewed in the presence of her lawyer, in order to clarify the circumstances and verify the information received by the law enforcement agencies. After the interview, by decision of the State Prosecutor, she was released in a regular procedure.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Central Election Commission, Kreshnik Radoniqi, has stated that the CEC is aware of reports regarding violations of electoral silence by political entities, but has emphasized that handling these cases is not within the competence of this institution and that actions are taken by the responsible bodies based on the complaints submitted.
