The Kosovo Assembly voted today on a resolution in support of the KLA leaders who are facing trial in The Hague. The initiative was submitted by the PDK. The deputies approved the text with 90 votes in favor, one against and no abstentions. The Vetëvendosje Movement deputy, Fatos Geci, voted against. The Serb List was not present in the hall.
The Democratic League of Kosovo declared support for the resolution, but requested the inclusion of a point related to providing justice for political murders. The request was submitted by the head of the LDK Parliamentary Group, Jehona Lushaku.
The head of the PDK parliamentary group, Përparim Gruda, opposed the change. He explained that a group of experts had drafted the text and that it was not foreseen to be reopened for amendments. Following this stance, the LDK deputies decided not to participate in the vote.
Speaker of Parliament Albulena Haxhiu stated that the Assembly will also address the issue of political murders, but requested that the resolution in question be put to a vote without amendments.
After the vote, Jehona Lushaku emphasized that the LDK agreed with the point of the resolution, but not with its content.
With this decision, the Assembly formalized political support for former KLA leaders who are being tried in the Special Court.
