Ramush Haradinaj has resigned from the position of chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
In a press conference, Haradinaj declared that he will also not run for AAK chairman or in the party's Assembly.
Haradinaj said his decision is also a result of the election results. AAK performed poorly in the December elections, winning 6 MPs.
" The electoral process begins on February 20. It is a novelty or change because I will not run for president of the Alliance in these internal elections. I have also given several reasons, I will explain them to you. One reason is the long time, the second reason is the election result. It is also the trust I have in the Alliance's framework ," he said in a statement to the media after the meeting of the Alliance's General Council.
AAK was established in 2000. Initially, AAK was a coalition of five patriotic parties. In 2001, two of the parties withdrew from the coalition.
After the 2001 parliamentary elections, for the 2002 municipal elections, AAK was registered as an independent political party, and began to function as a single party rather than as a coalition. Many of the party's members are former KLA members and patriots. Since its establishment, it has been led by Ramush Haradinaj.
