The Kosovo government has not indicated whether there will be a change of course regarding the actions that led to the suspension of the planned Strategic Dialogue by the United States of America. The Prime Minister's Office did not indicate whether this issue is planned to be raised in the meetings that Kurti is holding in the US on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
So far, none of the meetings held, for which the government issued statements, mention the Strategic Dialogue. Also, meetings with representatives of the US State Department have been absent, "KOHA" reports.
A senior US State Department official told TIME a few days ago that “Kurti crossed a red line” by attempting to prevent the participation of the Serbian List in the October 12 local elections, an action that led to the US decision to suspend the planned Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo. The State Department official said that the doors of cooperation are open if the acting Prime Minister, Kurti, takes concrete actions.
On the second day of his stay in New York, Kurti, together with the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, met with the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi.
President Vjosa Osmani is also staying in the US, and she participated in the roundtable organized by Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, entitled "The Global Asylum System: What Went Wrong and How to Fix It."
"We are very proud to be the first and only country in Europe to have signed an agreement with the US for third countries to support President Trump's agenda to combat illegal migration. We are ready to support countries that need Kosovo's support, even though we are a small country," said Osmani.
Osmani further added that Kosovo is the first country to harmonize with the US list of terrorist organizations, including the last three executive orders of US President Donald Trump.
"When someone is called a terrorist organization or a cartel, because they endanger the security of the US, then they are also called terrorists in the Republic of Kosovo. We need this kind of cooperation, with the aim that the system is used to protect those in need... Let's not let cooperation between criminal networks be stronger than cooperation between states ," she said.
Earlier, Osmani said that he had a substantive conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the framework of the reception organized by President Trump, but he did not mention the Strategic Dialogue. This meeting does not appear on the official website of the US Department nor on Rubio's profile on social networks.
