The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has agreed with the US proposal for early elections in the four municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo, but on the condition that they be free and democratic.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo has said that he agrees to early elections in the north of Kosovo, but first, he said, the gangs supported by Belgrade must return to Serbia or be arrested in Kosovo.
In an interview for the American television NBC, Kurti said that the details for the new elections will be discussed with the special envoy of the European Union for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak and the special envoy of the USA for the Balkans, Gabriel Escobar , who are expected to visit Kosovo next week.
"I do not deny the possibility of new elections, but we must first establish justice in the country. Once the gangs in the north must be brought to justice. For de-escalation, the violent gangs must either return to Serbia or be arrested in Kosovo and then we can have early elections, but they must be fair, democratic and free", Prime Minister Kurti said .
"Next week, Lajcak and Escobar will come to Kosovo and we will discuss the details. I also believe in early elections, but we also need law and order first", he added.
Kurti stated that the Albanian mayors who won in the northern municipalities have low legitimacy, but according to him they are legal.
"The mayors who won the municipalities have low legitimacy due to low participation. We invited the citizens to vote, but Belgrade blackmailed them. We must stop Belgrade from bullying the Serbs of Kosovo", said Kurti.
He said that Serbia, and especially Russia, prevents Kosovo from succeeding as a state.
“Rusia nuk do që Kosova të ketë sukses si shtet, sepse ne jemi një storie suksesi e NATO-s. Nuk jemi një shtet i madh, por jemi shembull i mirë se si demokracia dhe ekonomia mund të rriten së bashku”, ka deklaruar ai.
I pyetur nga gazetari Chuck Todd nëse forcat policore të Kosovës kanë përdorur dhunë të tepruar, Kurti ka thënë se kjo gjë nuk mund të dëshmohet, ngase Policia e Kosovës është forcë profesionale e trajnuar për vite nga SHBA.
“Nuk ka asnjë provë që Policia e Kosovës është sjellë në mënyrë të gabuar. Ata janë trajnuar për 20 vite nga Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës. Në anën tjetër kemi bandat, që janë këtu për ta destabilizuar Kosovën”, ka deklaruar Kurti.
Kujtojmë se në fund të muajit Maj, u krijuan tensione në veri të Kosovës me protestuesit serbë që nuk i lejonin kryetarët e rinj të katër komunave me shumicë serbe t’i ushtronin detyrat e tyre nga objektet komunale. Si rrjedhojë, u desh të ndërhyjë Policia e Kosovës, e më pas edhe KFOR-i prej të cilëve 30 morën lëndime trupore gjatë përplasjes me protestues të dhunshëm serbë.

Borrell ka kërkuar po ashtu që të sigurohet se serbët marrin pjesë në procesin zgjedhor si dhe sa më parë të fillohet me themelimin e Asociacionit të Komunave me Shumicë Serbe.
