Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu has commented on the tense situation in the North of Kosovo.
He said that the Americans could not tolerate the rejection of Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
"The US was pro-Kurti and pro-government until the incident happened. Elections were conducted unilaterally. The USA recognized the legitimacy of the Kurti and Kosovo elections, they did not support Serbia. In complete rejection of the Council and the American suggestion, Albin Kurti acted on his own and the Americans could not tolerate it. Law in international relations must prevail in fair proportion to the benefits. If you exercise a right of sovereignty over the one who preserves and guarantees you sovereignty. The damages and consequences that come from this exercise of the right under the justification of sovereignty, go as consequences for Kosovo," he said.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has declared that the United States of America is a key ally and partner of Kosovo, despite the differences.
He said that it is Serbia that should be sanctioned because "it is financing the fascist militia in the northern part of my country".
"Those who talk about sanctions should probably think wider or deeper. Serbia is not imposing sanctions on the Russian Federation and is financing this fascist militia in the northern part of my country, so maybe they should (receive) sanctions", said Kurti in an interview with the Financial Times.
He stated that he was in constant contact with the American ambassador in Kosovo.
"I admit that in terms of the actions taken, we had a small difference, but I honestly do not feel that any kind of sanction (for) Kosovo... is the right measure," he said.
The head of the executive has said that he is ready to hold a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic with the mediation of Brussels.
He also welcomed the deployment of more NATO troops in Kosovo, saying "I have been calling for more NATO soldiers since last year."
