The Turkish Ministry of Defense has stated that after the events in Kosovo, at the request of the NATO Joint Force Command, a commando battalion has been decided to be sent to Kosovo, writes Daily Sabah.
The Turkish Armed Forces will be transferred to the Sultan Murat Barracks in Kosovo by June 5.
In a written statement from the ministry regarding the developments in Kosovo, it is said that Turkey continues to contribute to regional and global peace and stability within the framework of the United Nations, NATO, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and bilateral relations. .
In this context, the Turkish ministry emphasizes that the developments in the Balkans, where there are shared historical and cultural values with Turkey, are being closely followed.
"Turkey shows a constructive attitude and calls on the parties for restraint to resolve the recent events in the friendly and fraternal northern part of Kosovo, which harm regional security and stability, through dialogue," the statement said.
"Following the events in Kosovo, the NATO Joint Force Command in Naples (Italy), a commando battalion attached to our 65th Mechanized Infantry Brigade Command (Lüleburgaz), which was previously part of the NATO Force -s in Kosovo, was assigned as a reserve unit. Preparations for his transfer have begun."
Both Serbia and Kosovo are under international pressure to resolve the latest in a long line of crises between Kosovo's ethnic Albanian-dominated government and the ethnic Serbs who are the majority in the north.
Violence flared this week after Kosovo authorities, backed by special police units, installed ethnic Albanian mayors in offices in northern municipalities. The mayors were elected with a turnout of only 3.5% after the Serbs boycotted the local elections.
