The Hungarian media have given voice to the violent protest of May 29 in Zveçan between the Serbian protesters and the Kosovo police, where dozens of KFOR soldiers were injured after the violent clash with the Serbs. Media Telex writes that two Hungarian soldiers are in critical condition, while one of them has lost a leg as a result of violent protests.
The ministry has said that most of the soldiers have returned to their homes, but the condition of two soldiers is still serious and they are being treated in hospital.
" For their recovery, the Hungarian Defense Forces and military doctors are doing everything to the maximum. Despite the high level of medical care, after a preliminary consultation with the patient, taking into account the results of the treatments provided since the injury, one of the cases required the amputation of a limb, which was carried out on Friday at the National Rehabilitation Institute Medical. The operation went well, the patient's condition is stable ," the ministry said in a statement.
The KFOR mission in Kosovo, through a statement addressed to the media, confirmed that due to the escalation of protests in the north on May 29, 30 soldiers were injured, where 19 of them were from the Hungarian contingent.
" The number of peacekeepers injured during the violence in the municipality of Zveçan is 30. 11 soldiers from the Italian contingent and 19 from the Hungarian contingent. They suffered multiple injuries, including lacerations and burns from improvised explosive devices. Three Hungarian soldiers were injured by the use of firearms ", KFOR confirmed.
Members of the Kosovo Police, journalists and a cameraman were also injured by the tensions in the north. Official vehicles were also damaged. Currently, the situation in the four northern municipalities, Zveçan, North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok and Leposavic is reported to be calm, while KFOR and the Kosovo Police continue to have additional troops in these municipalities.
