The murder of the two Bytyçi brothers, the USA again calls on Serbia:

The United States of America has again called on Serbia to bring to justice those who committed the murder of the Bytyçi brothers, as well as those who covered up that crime. American citizens Ylli, Agron and Mehmet Bytyçi were killed 24 years ago.

"Once again, we call on Serbia to fully investigate this case and demand accountability from those who committed and covered up this brutal act. We will continue this call until justice is served," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller wrote on Twitter.

The American Embassy in Serbia emphasized on Twitter that "every year that passes without anyone being held accountable for this brutal war crime is an insult to the rule of law."

Ylli, Agron and Mehmet Bytyçi were killed in July 1999 in Serbia, after the war in Kosovo.

They fought as part of the "Atlantic Brigade" alongside the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during the war in Kosovo, while they were arrested after the end of the NATO bombing in 1999, on the border with Kosovo, for illegal crossing into Serbia .

After serving a misdemeanor sentence of 15 days, they were released from prison, but the Serbian police sent them to the base of the Special Anti-Terrorist Units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia in Petrovo Sella, which was under the command of Goran Radosavlević Guri.

Radosavlević rejected any responsibility for the death of the Bytyçi brothers.

Their bodies, with bound hands and gunshot wounds to the back of the head, were discovered in July 2001 in a mass grave in Petrovo Sella, eastern Serbia, along with other bodies of Kosovo Albanians. .

In July 2022, the House of Representatives of the United States Congress approved the Resolution on the case of the murder of its citizens, the Bytyçi brothers, in 1999 in Serbia.

The resolution states that "the individuals responsible for the murders of American citizens in Serbia in July 1999 must be brought to justice" and that the US must "invest sufficient resources to fully assist and monitor Serbia's efforts to investigate and prosecute such persons"./REL
