Mefail Shkodra, the most talked about person in recent days and the main suspect in the triple murder that shocked Gjilan on Sunday, appears to have had close ties to important political figures in the country.
In several published photographs, he is seen next to President Vjosa Osmani, her husband, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, as well as the acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, and the Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama.
After the publication of these images, the Presidency of Kosovo reacted by denying the close acquaintance of Shkodra, saying that the photo was taken during a festive activity organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Kosovo, where, according to them, Shkodra was present as a guest.
However, this version has been rejected by the Albanian Embassy itself.
In an official response to the Insajderi Newspaper, the embassy stated that Mefail Shkodra has never appeared on the guest lists for any of its official activities.
"In response to your request for information, we inform you that, based on the official data of the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in the Republic of Kosovo, the person in question is not registered on the guest lists for any of the official receptions or activities organized by our diplomatic mission. The Embassy of the Republic of Albania in the Republic of Kosovo carefully follows and monitors developments in the country and reconfirms that citizen Mefail Shkodra has not been on any list as a guest at any official activity organized by this Embassy ," the embassy's response states, "Gazeta Express" reports.
Even the incumbent Kurti Government has denied that Mefail Shkodra, the suspect in the triple murder in Gjilan, was invited by it to the event where he was photographed with senior state figures.
Government spokesman, Përparim Kryeziu, stated that the event was not organized by the Government, but by the Albanian Embassy in Kosovo.
He has accused PDK MP Abelard Tahiri of publicly lying regarding this issue.
"Mr. Abelard Tahiri lied publicly today and knowingly. Today, in a press conference, he, although an MP, fully knowingly joined the social media campaign aimed at smearing the Prime Minister and the Kurti Government and linking it to the dorasin Mefail Shkodra through a photograph. MP Tahiri lied publicly when he said that the photograph was taken at a state reception organized by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. Even though he knows that that event is, in fact, a reception organized by the Albanian Embassy in Kosovo in celebration of the 110th anniversary of Albania's independence. I know, because he himself was invited and present at that same event in 2022, as the photograph below proves. And when he deliberately and publicly tells the truth, then he has no credibility left to say anything else ," Kryeziu wrote on Facebook.
Despite contradictory statements, it remains unclear who invited Mefail Shkodra to that event and for what reason, and how he ended up posing with the highest state figures.
Mefail Shkodra's criminal past:
Sunday's (August 10) incident was not Mefail Shkodra's first run-in with the law.
In 2024, he was arrested during a large-scale Kosovo Police operation in three regions of the country, for the criminal offenses of "Usurpation" and "Coercion".
In that case, in Gjilan, he was arrested along with another person, while a third person was declared wanted. According to the Gjilan Prosecutor's Office, the financial damage caused by the suspected group amounted to over 600 thousand euros.
The victims reported that they had faced threats and constant pressure to repay debts at high interest rates and illegally.
Shkodra was associated with Kurti, Osman and Rama
Beyond the criminal scene, Mefail Shkodra was also active on social networks, where he often published photos of luxury cars and an extravagant lifestyle.
In some of them, he appeared in the presence of well-known political figures, including Prime Minister Albin Kurti, President Vjosa Osmani, Pristina Mayor Përparim Rama, and Interior Minister Xhelal Svecla.
