Elections in Kosovo, Albin Kurti leads with 49.30 percent; diaspora votes
The current Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti

Kosovo held its second parliamentary elections yesterday, nine months after the first. These extraordinary elections were held in a state on the verge of collapse after the failure of the Vetevendosje Movement to form a government.

From the counting of 2,557 ballot boxes, Albin Kurti with the LVV party is leading convincingly with 49.30%. Following LVV is the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) led by Bedri Hamza with 21.01% and in third place is the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) led by Lumir Abdixhiu, who has managed to secure 13.59%.

Albin Kurti has declared an early victory and invited opposition parties to cooperate, mainly on international issues.

Meanwhile, postal votes, special needs votes, and conditional votes are still to be counted, and then the final results will be announced.

We recall that in the February 9 elections, LVV managed to secure 42.30% of the votes, translated into 48 mandates. PDK came in second place with 20.95% of the votes or 24 mandates, followed by LDK with 18.27% of the votes translated into 20 mandates.

With the result Kurti has received, based on the calculation, they can produce 56 MPs. Kurti needs no more than 5 MPs out of the 10 that non-Serb minorities have to form the "Kurti 3" government.

With the calculation according to the “D'Hondt” formula, the Democratic Party of Kosovo with 21 percent of the votes has 23 deputies. The Democratic League has 15 deputies, while the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has secured 6 deputies.

Compared to the February elections, the Vetëvendosje Movement has increased by 8 MPs, from 48.

Meanwhile, PDK lost one MP.

The biggest loser is the LDK, which has lost five MPs, out of 20 it had.

AAK in coalition with Nisma had 8 MPs.

This calculation is valid without counting votes cast by mail and those cast at diplomatic missions.

The other 20 seats in the Kosovo Assembly are divided into 10 for the Serbian community and 10 for other communities.
