Britney Spears' ex-husband, Kevin Federline, has published a book, where he leaves nothing unsaid about life with the singer and often portrays her as a person with significant mental health problems.
He described moments with their sons, saying that when they were younger they would wake up at night and see their mother looking at them holding a knife. At another point, he explains that he got to the point of speaking out publicly because he is worried about the pop star.
However, she is not convinced by his accusations and after the reports were published, she made a post about him on Twitter. "The constant manipulation by my ex-husband is extremely painful and exhausting," the singer wrote in a tweet on Wednesday evening, commenting on Kevin Federline's published book and recent interviews.
The pop star said she has "begged" to have a normal relationship with her sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jaden James, 19. "Relationships with teenage boys are complicated. I feel humiliated by this situation and I have always wanted, almost prayed, for them to be a part of my life," she said.
She also argued that her children “have always witnessed the lack of respect their father showed them and that, now as adults, “they must take responsibility for their attitude.” According to her, one son has only seen her for 45 minutes in a year, while the other has only visited her four times in the last five years.
“I have my pride too,” she continued. “From now on, I will be the one to let him know when I’m available. Trust me, the lies in this book will make him money, but I’m the one who’s really getting hurt here.” The 43-year-old concluded her post by expressing her love for her children: “I will always love them. Anyone who truly knows me won’t pay attention to the reports about my mental health or drinking. I’m a pretty smart woman who has tried to live a quiet life for the past five years.” Her response comes just ahead of the release of Kevin Federline’s book, “You Said You Knew,” on Oct. 21.
According to the New York Times, in one excerpt the former dancer claims that their sons "woke up sometimes at night and saw her standing in the doorway, looking at them, holding a knife."
In another interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kevin Federline said he feared for Britney Spears and their children, saying her “behavior was erratic.” He also said that the night before their wedding in 2004, he caught her calling her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake.
