BAFTA award winner Michael Ward appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on August 28. He is accused of rape and sexual abuse.
Ward, 27, known for his roles in TV series and films Top Boy, Small Axe and Blue Story, faces two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He has been released on bail, while the case has been referred for further consideration at the High Court in Snaresbrook, where a hearing is expected on September 25.
Authorities say the allegations relate to a woman and the events are believed to have taken place in January 2023. The actor, who lives in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, has not yet been asked to make a formal statement on the allegations, but has previously denied any involvement. In a statement released in July, he expressed full confidence in the legal process and said he had cooperated with police at every stage of the investigation.
The Jamaican-born actor rose to fame in 2019 with the film Blue Story, and won the BAFTA Rising Star Award the following year. He played Jamie in the hit Netflix series Top Boy (2019–2022), and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTA TV Awards for his role in Small Axe in 2021.
