A nurse at Aylesbury Prison in Buckinghamshire, Great Britain, is being investigated by authorities after allegedly having an affair with one of the inmates. Alexandra Power has been fired after being accused of having an affair with Jay Bell, who was sentenced to 10 months in prison for disturbing the peace. Britain's biggest prison which opened in 2017 was seen as a model where £212m was spent on rehabilitating criminals. 7 years later, the prison has gained another reputation, as the epicenter of a sex scandal involving the prison service.
Last year no fewer than 18 women working at the 2,100-capacity category C prison for adult men were fired or resigned after breaking rules on relations with inmates. One of the other cases is that of probation officer Ayshea Gunn, who exchanged more than 1,200 phone calls, including video calls, with inmate Khuram Razaq.
Likewise, a colleague of hers, officer Emily Watson, performed a sexual act with a prisoner in his cell. Last month two female prison staff appeared at Bolton Crown Court accused of having affairs with the same inmate at the same time. Prison officer Bates was the first to start a relationship with an inmate accused of drug trafficking. She was so fascinated that she started messaging him and sending him nude photos. She even planned that after he was released, they would have a relationship together. The second relationship, with paramedic Wilkes, came to light in 2020 when a contraband phone containing dozens of text messages was found in the inmate's cell.
Bates was jailed for two years and eight months and Wilkes was sentenced to 12 months, suspended for two years. In the three years to March 2023, 31 female prison staff working in men's prisons were fired, including one who gave birth to her incarcerated boyfriend's child and another who had his cell number tattooed on her thigh .
