A new Netflix documentary has brought one of the most famous reality shows of the 2000s back into the spotlight, shedding light on the darker sides of "America's Next Top Model."
The production interviews former contestants and staff members, who recount emotionally difficult experiences, extreme pressure, and forms of bullying while participating in the show. According to the testimonies, the dramatic scenes and derogatory comments were not just for television effect, but left real psychological and professional consequences.
The documentary also mentions possible cases of harassment, discrimination, and problematic challenges, which – according to some former participants – were ignored or justified by the production for the sake of the audience and on-screen drama.
Some of the winners and contestants have stated that the pressure to "deliver drama" often put them in vulnerable situations, causing great stress and feelings of humiliation. Even the host and main producer of the format, Tyra Banks, has apologized for several incidents reported over the years.
Although the documentary has no direct connection to the Jeffrey Epstein case, the parallel drawn in public opinion is related to the way the industry of fame and power has often failed to protect young people from abuse and extreme pressure.
The Netflix production aims to show the reality behind the cameras, opening a new debate on the ethics of reality shows and their long-term impact on participants.
