A few weeks ago, a story that came from the phenomenon of social networks shocked public opinion, the case of Genard and Sonida Hajdini raised questions about the boundary between online exposure and mental health, but also how society reacts to someone else's fragility.
After being discharged from the hospital, Genard Hajdini says that in addition to his health situation, he and his sister have faced another pressure, that of social networks. According to him, the online comments and attacks have been constant.
"We were massacred by the internet because we had so many followers. They cursed at us, they bullied us," he told "A2 Cnn."
He also talks about the days inside the institution, emphasizing that the most difficult moment was the separation from his sister.
"We were together at first, then they separated us. Sonida was with the women, I was with the men. They didn't let us see each other. Then, when I got better, we saw each other," said Genardi.
Regarding the video that prompted reactions and institutional intervention, he admits that the publication came at a moment of pressure.
"To end up from an excellent student with four jobs is scary. I threw the video away because I had pressure from outside ," he added.
Genardi says the publication was also a way to react to what he calls constant judgment from society.
"I left the video because I provoke Albanian society. I like to work. Sonida is a fool, she doesn't care, I'm in my own house, she tells me?" said Genardi.
Amidst the numerous allegations circulating online, he categorically denies the accusations of an incestuous relationship with his sister.
"I want to clarify once and for all, there was no incest. I want them to help us, but we are not here to be helped, we are here to work," said Genardi.
Their case brings to mind not only the importance of professional treatment when mental health is at risk, but also the responsibility that public spaces and social networks bear. Because among the reactions, comments, and virality, it is often forgotten that behind every story there are people who face much more complex realities than those shown on screen.
