Hyperactive and distracted, Paris Hilton speaks for the first time about her

Paris Hilton has spoken openly about her diagnosis with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

In an interview with Teen Vogue, the 43-year-old reflected on her struggles with ADHD symptoms before receiving her final diagnosis.

“Growing up, I was always told I was too energetic, too distracted, too loud — just too much into everything. My constant need for stimulation, combined with an education system that didn't suit my natural way of learning, eventually led me to hang out with troubled teenagers in the industry,'” she wrote in her account.

Hilton has previously spoken about how her teenage rebellion led her parents to send her to a series of institutions and treatment programs for children with behavioral problems, addictions and mental health issues. At age 17, she spent 11 months at Provo Canyon School in Utah, where she claims she was sexually abused.

Recalling that period of her life, Hilton wrote, “I wish someone had asked, 'What's really going on with her? Instead, I spent years feeling misunderstood, punished for the way my brain worked,” she added. "It wasn't until much later in life that I discovered what was really going on: I had ADHD."

Hilton emphasized that ADHD is often a "silent battle" for girls and women, which according to studies often go undiagnosed.

She recalled that she was initially unsure of how to cope with her diagnosis.

"At first, being diagnosed felt like a label — something that limited me, defining me by what I couldn't do, by what made me different," she wrote. "It was something I felt it necessary to hide, worrying about how it might be perceived. Would people think I was too scattered, too unstable or incapable of success?”

She continued:

“ADHD is not a limitation; it's a superpower. It's my secret weapon in a world that often tells us to play it safe.”
