The President of the Mediation Chamber, Drita Avdyli, was invited to “Live From Tirana.” She spoke more about some of the most common cases that people come to for mediation…
Excerpt from the interview:
Recently, there have been many divorces between public figures. Do they turn to the Mediation Chamber, or do they prefer to pass this matter 'under the rug'?
In fact, the most frequent cases in mediation are family matters, when VIPs have decided to divorce. Because the main principle with us is confidentiality. So you, the media in particular, don't find out, we don't give names.
So, unlike the court, where can information leak, not you?
Absolutely! Not only do they believe in confidentiality, but also in the perfection of the process. To clarify for the citizens: if two people have decided to divorce, if they go to court, they have a trial for the separation and the consequences, they also have another trial for the division of property. This means that there are two separate trials and these two trials certainly have very big conflicts, especially in VIPs with property issues. So the divorce procedure lasts over 10 years. Whereas, if they come to us, not only is it very confidential, the parties sit down, maybe not together but separately, they decide how they will divide this property and the two trials merge into one and there is only one session for the approval of the settlement agreement. So we have confidentiality, but we also have speed at the service of these VIPs.
