New rules coming into effect for the Metropolitan Police in Great Britain will see officers banned from contacting sex workers and declaring all their love affairs.
As well as declaring any romantic relationships, officers must also reveal the source of any windfall over £5,000 under stricter guidelines issued in April as part of a bid to restore public confidence in the Metropolitan Police.
The new rules come into force after a series of scandals involving various officers, including murderer Wayne Couzens and serial rapist David Carrick, have rocked public opinion.
Speaking about the new rules, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Bringing them into force is important if we want to make sure the right people join us. But it is equally important that our existing workforce continues to meet the high standards and levels of vetting that are rightly expected of them throughout their careers."
This is the first time that agents from Scotland Yard have been specifically banned from going with sex workers, having previously only had "ear-pulling" in relation to various incidents within the force, under general regulations.
