Basketball is in mourning. Former Turkish player Ilkan Karaman has lost his life after a tragic accident that happened in the Datça region, about 600 kilometers south of Istanbul, in Turkey.
According to Turkish sources, Karaman was on a sidewalk waiting for a friend to refuel his car when another vehicle lost control, mounted the sidewalk and crashed into the former player, according to Turkish sources.
Apparently the loss of control is related to excessive alcohol. Karaman was trapped under the vehicle, where he died from the blows and injuries caused by the violent collision.
Born in 1990, Ilkan Karaman was a promising Turkish player who played for several teams in his country such as Tofas Bursa, Pinar Karsijaka, Fenerbahce and Besiktas. He won the Turkish Cup in 2013 and his country's League in 2014 while playing for Fenerbahçe.
And with that team he made his EuroLeague debut in the 2013-2014 season, appearing in 22 games and averaging 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Playing as a forward, Karaman was a regular on Turkey's practice squads and even played for the national team in EuroBasket 2013 qualifiers, averaging 10.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 10 games.
