Pep Guardiola has been involved in public debate in recent days after his statements regarding the conflicts that are shaking the world, especially the war in Gaza, where he expressed support for Palestine and condemned the killing of innocent civilians.
The Manchester City manager's stance has drawn criticism from the Manchester Jewish Representative Council, which has criticised Guardiola for his involvement in political and humanitarian issues. In a public statement, the Council stressed that, while his views may be well-intentioned, Guardiola should focus on football, calling on public figures to be careful in their use of language, given the attacks and threats they say Jews face around the world.
On Friday, during a press conference ahead of the Premier League match against Liverpool, Guardiola was asked again about the issue and responded to the criticism. The Spanish coach said he had not made any extraordinary statements, but felt the need to express his opinions as a citizen.
" Why shouldn't I say what I feel just because I'm a football coach? I don't agree with this approach, but I absolutely respect all opinions. What I said was that today there are many conflicts in the world and I condemn them all. Every one. When innocent people are killed, I condemn them all ," Guardiola declared.
With this reaction, the Manchester City coach emphasized that his stance is not political, but humanitarian, underlining the condemnation of any form of violence against civilians, regardless of the country or parties involved in the conflict.
