The Albanian Basketball Federation (ABF) announces that it has officially denounced to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) the racist chants against our country during the FIBA World Cup qualifying match between North Macedonia and Romania, in the city of Kumanovo.
In the hall, insults and low racist calls against Albanians such as "gas chamber for Albanians", "siptari" were heard in the presence of high state figures such as the Prime Minister, the Minister of Interior and the Mayor of Kumanovo.
Reaction of the Albanian Basketball Federation:
" The Albanian Basketball Federation informs that following the incident that occurred during the FIBA World Cup qualifying match between North Macedonia and Romania in the city of Kumanovo, where racist chants were heard against Albania and Albanians, it has taken official steps to address this issue ," reads the ABF's announcement.
" The Albanian Basketball Federation has sent an official letter to FIBA World, denouncing the event and demanding that clear measures be taken against any action that contradicts the spirit of equality and respect that the sport promotes. The Federation emphasizes that basketball should be a space for cooperation, respect and dignified representation, away from hate speech and any form of discrimination ," the announcement adds.
