New clash between Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), with Lamine Yamal at the center of the controversy.
The Barca striker has been excluded from the Spain national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Turkey.
The RFEF issued a statement on Monday expressing its "surprise and concern" over a medical procedure performed on the player without prior notification of the national team's medical staff.
According to the Federation's statement, the RFEF medical services were informed at 1:47 p.m. central time on Monday, November 10, the first official day of training camp, although the players were scheduled to report later that afternoon, that the FC Barcelona player had undergone an "invasive radiofrequency procedure" earlier that morning to treat ongoing discomfort in the pubic area.
The governing body explained that Spain's medical team had not been notified in advance of the treatment and only received a report at 10:40pm that night recommending a rest period of between seven and ten days.
Given the circumstances and "always prioritizing the health, safety and well-being of the player," the Federation decided to exempt Lamine Yamal from the national team call-up for future international matches.
