The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been shocked by the tragic news of the death of Stephane Aziz Ki's son.
The Burkina Faso star is currently with his national team on tour, while his club has reacted with a message of condolence after this touching news.
"With deep pain and sadness, Wydad AC expresses its most sincere condolences to our player Aziz Ki on the passing of his son. We pray to God Almighty to have mercy on the deceased, grant him a place in Paradise, and grant his family and relatives patience and peace," the statement said.
On New Year's Eve, Aziz Ki helped Burkina Faso secure a place in the top two and qualification from Group E at the Africa Cup of Nations, after a victory over Sudan.
He assisted the first goal in the 2-0 win, which secured second place in the group. In the round of 16, Burkina Faso will face a big challenge against Ivory Coast, which will be played on Tuesday, January 6. Aziz Ki and his teammates won two matches and lost one in the group stage. They defeated Equatorial Guinea 2-1, before suffering a 1-0 defeat to group winners Algeria.
The victory over Sudan then secured second place in the group, in a match where both teams entered with equal points. Aziz Ki, 29, plays at club level for Wydad Athletic Club.
He joined Wydad last year, having previously played for Young Africans in Tanzania.
