Andoni Iraola is set to take over as Liverpool manager after the English club reached an agreement in principle with the Spanish coach. He will succeed Arne Slott, who is leaving after a disappointing season in charge at Anfield Road.
According to reports in the British media and transfer expert Fabricio Romano, negotiations between the parties have progressed rapidly in recent days, leading to an initial agreement for cooperation. Iraola was a free agent after his contract with Bournemouth expired at the end of the season, which has facilitated the procedures for Liverpool.
The club's decision comes after a difficult season in the Premier League, where Liverpool finished fifth. In contrast, Iraola has attracted attention with his work at Bournemouth, which he led to a sixth-place finish.
His team particularly stood out in the second half of the season, recording a run of 18 consecutive matches without defeat, a result that placed the Spanish coach among the most respected names in English football.
Meanwhile, British media reports that Iraola has identified his first target for the summer transfer window. It is Jean-Matheto Bahoja, the 21-year-old striker of Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Frenchman is valued for his flexibility in the attacking department, as he can operate on both sides of the attack and contribute to creating goal chances. Liverpool have reportedly initiated contacts with the German club and the player's representatives.
According to the same sources, Bahoja's transfer could be completed for an amount of around 40 million euros.
