The Brazilian Football Federation is under the threat of FIFA suspension due to the affair surrounding the departure of president Ednaldo Rodrigues, writes "Associated Press".
In a letter, FIFA warned the federation of possible consequences if it decides to hold early elections for Rodrigues' successor after a court in Rio de Janeiro dismissed him from office on December 7 for irregularities in his election last year and two other instances supported the decision.
The world football organization suspects the involvement of the Brazilian government and third parties in the work of the Federation, which is strictly prohibited by FIFA rules and subject to the exclusion of the national team and Brazilian clubs from international competitions.
FIFA does not like that the head of Brazil's highest sports court has been appointed in charge of organizing new presidential elections within 30 days. In the letter, they stated that they would form a commission to discuss the case on January 8 and that elections before that deadline would open the door to suspension.
Rodrigues' term was extended until 2026 and Brazilian media claim he is considering running for office again. He is the person who has strongly defended the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti at the head of the Brazilian national team starting from next summer.
