
The Basic Court in Peja has announced an acquittal against judoka Akil Gjakova, who was charged with the criminal offense of "Domestic Violence", under Article 248, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo (CCRK).
The charge against Gjakova was filed on December 14, 2024, alleging that he had abused his wife.
According to the official announcement, the General Department of the Basic Court in Peja, after the judicial review, has acquitted the defendant A.Gj. from the indictment, in accordance with Article 363, paragraph 1, subparagraph 1.3 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kosovo (CPRK).
The costs of the criminal procedure will be covered by the court's budget, while the injured party, identified with the initials SM, has been instructed to pursue her property-legal claim in a civil litigation procedure.
The full reasoning of the judgment will be submitted to the parties with the written decision. The parties have the right to appeal against this decision within the legal deadline of 30 days from the date of receipt of the judgment, by filing the appeal with the Court of Appeal through the Basic Court in Peja.
The current judgment is not final until the deadline for appeal or the eventual decision by the higher instance.
