He is only 28 years old, but Sparta Prague captain Filip Panak knows what it means to win a match when your opponent is dead. It is about the four most difficult years for him, from 2018 - 2022.
Part of Sparta Prague since 2019, the knee injury was bothering Panak. At some point, his liver and kidneys were failing and instead of trying to play football again, he was fighting for his life.
According to the Czech newspaper "TN", after the knee surgery during that time, he had a kidney problem, which was probably going to malfunction. "In the first stage after the first operation, I had an inflammation in my knee and my kidneys were failing.
I spent weeks in the hospital fighting and another two weeks in orthopedics, cleaning up after surgery. At that moment, it was not about football or sports, but about my life.
I went to dialysis, my liver was also dying. At that moment, it was about how to save my life," says the 28-year-old.
With the help of friends and family, as well as doctors, Panak was able to recover from the lowest point of his career.
This Wednesday, Sparta Prague won 3-0 against Salzburg in the Champions League and after 21 years they get a win at this level of football, with Panak named "Man of the Match". Qazim Laçi, the midfielder of the national team, scored the third and peace goal.
