The Argentine star, Lionel Messi, has started to leave his first mark in the American football championship. He scored a dramatic goal in the 94th minute on his debut with new club Inter Miami. The David Beckham-owned club beat Mexican side Cruz Azul with a last-minute goal in the League Cup.
Messi, considered by many to be one of the game's greatest players, joined the club just a week ago after two years of being pursued by Beckham.
The World Cup winner came off the bench as captain in the second half of the game at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in front of a crowd of 21,000 that included the likes of LeBron James and Serena Williams.
His goal came from a free kick in the last seconds of the game from about 25 meters outside the area, the ball flew straight into the left triangle of the goal.
After scoring his debut goal, he ran to the corner of the pitch before heading off to hug his family.
Speaking after the game through a translator, Messi said: " I knew I had to score, it was the last minute of the game and I had to score, so we didn't go to penalties.
