The Democratic Republic of Congo national team, which has qualified for this summer's World Cup, will undergo a 21-day quarantine before being allowed to enter the United States. The measure has been put in place due to the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic in the African country.

The news was confirmed by the executive director of the White House World Cup task force, Andrew Giuliani, who in a statement to ESPN announced that US authorities have notified FIFA, the Congolese Football Federation and the government in Kinshasa of the mandatory isolation.

According to Giuliani, the national team should remain isolated in Belgium, where the team is currently conducting its preparatory phase.

" We have been very clear with Congo. They must maintain the integrity of the isolation for 21 days before arriving in Houston on June 11 ," he stated.

" It has been made clear to the Congolese government that security measures must be fully respected, otherwise the team risks not being able to travel to the US. We want to make sure that nothing dangerous enters or approaches our borders ," Giuliani added.

The Congolese national team will be participating in a World Cup for the second time. The first participation dates back to 1974, when the country competed under the name Zaire.

Congo is expected to be based in Houston during the tournament and will play its first match on June 17 against Portugal.
