Olympic Games "Paris 2024"/ Russian and Belarusian athletes will be

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a decision on Friday allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete at the Olympic Games in Paris next year, but without national symbols. Athletes from these two countries will perform individually, as neutrals, provided they have met the qualification standards, while teams will not be allowed to perform.

Belarusians and Russians in Paris without national symbols

Athletes from Russia and Belarus will virtually be represented in Paris, as they will not be allowed to wear national emblems on their uniforms, nor will their national anthem be sung in the event of a gold medal win. Only those athletes who are not connected to the military or security forces and who do not have to actively show their support for the war in Ukraine will be allowed to perform.

As an additional condition for performance in Paris, the IOC requires all athletes to commit in writing to respect the Olympic Charter, and thus the "peaceful mission of the Olympic movement".

According to the IOC, eight Russians and three Belarusians have so far qualified for the Paris Olympics. About 4,600 athletes met the qualification standards, including more than 60 Ukrainian representatives.

In September, the International Paralympic Committee lifted a blanket ban on Russia and allowed Russian athletes with disabilities to compete in the Paris Paralympics under a neutral flag. This was already interpreted as an announcement of a similar decision by the IOC.
