"Charming player, I played against him", Faruk Sejdini: Beckenbauer

On Sunday, the legend of German football, Franc Beckenbauer, passed away, leaving behind great traces. The former footballer of the National Team, Faruk Sejdini, was lucky enough to face him and in an interview for "Sport News" on "News 24", in the show directed by Trevisa Tufa, he mentions the rare qualities of the "icon" Beckenbauer.

Franc Beckenbauer, what does this name mean to you? How do you remember it?

He is a man who has achieved records. He is a man who made history. It was not for nothing that they called him "Kaizer". It really is a great loss for football.

You faced Germany in 1971, you were playing starters at that time, Beckenbauer was also playing. How do you remember that challenge?

When you play with these figures like Beckenbauer or Myler, it was luck. For all of us it was luck and a privilege, so to speak. I was young, but so was Beckenbauer. I felt it was a historic match for me and it turned out that way. I remember that the stadium was full and most of them had not come to watch the game, but to see them as people. It was lucky to communicate with those people.

What kind of player was he, what made him special?

He was one of the most charming men of the time. I remember that there were girls in the stadium and they were curious to see him. This was a great footballer. That made it even more special. They said that he had no effort and played football with the same facial expression. Even the Germans bowed to Beckenbauer.

The media, sports opinion has considered him as the best defender in history, how do you rate him?

I would say he is one of the best defenders, if not the best. I have seen him several times, he was a player who never thought about the opponent, but only about the ball.

After the match in Germany, a banquet was held where Beckenbauer was again the protagonist.

" He went and met Panajot Panon, as he had great respect for him. He then gave him a gift of sports equipment, including a bag and shoes. Things that a footballer needed back then ," said Faruk Sejdini, former national team footballer.

Franc Beckenbauer played for 13 years with Bayern Munich, winning 5 European trophies, while with Germany he won a World Cup and led it to another one as a coach.

During his career he also won two Ballon d'Or despite playing as a defender.
