Kiian Mbape will not be the captain of PSG this season. Although one of the striker's objectives was to take over the management of the Parisian team, the French champions have given the final verdict and have chosen Marquinhos as the armband bearer.
In a second vote, which took place this Tuesday, the first one last Friday, the Brazilian was named team captain and settled a debate that had caused a bit of a stir in Paris. The second vote took place on Tuesday through private ballots in which each player chose a captain.
Marquinhos prevailed in the final vote over Verratti, who is not in Luis Enrique's plans. Mbape was the fourth Marquinhos had won in the first vote, which took place last Friday, but the informality of the act was not accepted by PSG leaders.
Now we need to know what position Mbape occupies within the team. Luis Enrique confirmed he would not take part in the captain's choice, even though Marquinhos captained Galtier and Pochettino and his leadership in the French capital is not in doubt.
The selection or not of Mbappe as captain should not have an a priori impact on his future. PSG continue to try to bring him closer to renewal. There is a moderate calm in Paris, in which they already take it for granted that it will continue this season.
