The alarm about the fitness of footballers has been raised ahead of the World Cup, after a series of injuries to some of the biggest names in international football. Lamin Jamal, Estevão, Eder Militao and Serge Gnabry are among the latest cases in a season characterised by high physical demands.

According to current data, Jamal and Estevao remain doubtful to reach optimal form for the tournament that will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Meanwhile, Germany have confirmed the absence of Gnabry for the months of June and July, while Militao will also be unavailable.

The 2025-2026 season has been accompanied by a busy calendar, significantly increasing the physical fatigue of the players. Experts emphasize that the accumulation of minutes and the high pace of matches are directly affecting the increase in injuries.

In addition to the number of matches, their intensity has also increased. The lack of recovery time and high training demands are making it increasingly difficult to maintain optimal physical condition throughout the season.

The case of Hugo Ekitike clearly illustrates the difficulties that players face. The French striker suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in a match against PSG, a serious injury that requires a long recovery time. This is not an isolated case, as similar injuries have been reported in other players.

Recently, knee injuries, especially cruciate ligament ruptures, have increased significantly. Such cases include Rodrigo (Brazil) and Panicelli (Argentina), who were injured during international duty.

Also, players such as Samu Aghehoua (Spain), Takumi Minamino (Japan) and Mohamed Salisu (Ghana) have suffered similar injuries, which require surgical intervention.

On the other hand, muscle injuries continue to be a widespread problem, often leading to serious ruptures. The case of Serge Gnabry, injured in the match against Real Madrid, is a clear example of this phenomenon.
